What kind of servers does DI Dedicated use?
In order to provide the best prices we have formed a hybrid system based on the best brands in the industry. We use predominantly ASUS or ABIT motherboards. These select boards are exclusively powered by Intel Processors. Memory is provided by Crucial and Kingston DDR / DDR2. Western Digital SATA drives provide the storage needs for every dedicated server. We take all this and place it in a custom manufactured chassis to provide a dense, cool, dedicated server solution.
When do I need a dedicated server ?
If you have a busy web site, or a custom web application you may find that you are starting to outgrow your shared hosting account. A dedicated server will make your life easier and most likely save you money. Before you take the plunge, you should be sure that you can manage the server. Some support is provided with a dedicated server but it is expected that you know what you are doing. Read on to decide whether a dedicated server is right for your site. How Busy is Your Site? Your first step in determining whether you need a dedicated server is to evaluate how much of the current hosting companies resources your site is using. and how close it is to the hosting companies limits. The following are the main reasons a company or individual considers a dedicated solution.
- Network bandwidth: Your host usually allows you a certain amount of data transfer per month. If you are paying more than $100.00 in bandwidth you should consider a dedicated server.
- Processor speed: Does your site respond quickly? A fast processor is especially needed for dynamic sites that use databases or server-side languages such as .net, asp, php or other scripting languages.
- Disk storage: Your hosting company allows you to use a certain amount of disk space, and may charge you for exceeding the limit. Sites that deal with graphics, multimedia, custom applications or high volume are the most likely to run up against these limits.
- Customization: When you need to really customize your web site or web application the only solution it to take advantage of server side functionality. This can only be fully taken advantage of by accesing the server itself. This is a definite indicator that you need a dedicated server.
A dedicated server will have limits on these resources as well, but usually offers greater amounts for less money. In the case of processor speed, you will be guaranteed the full use of the CPU rather than sharing it with the host's other customers.
